Our Story

Where it all began…

It all started, as all great love stories do these days… on Hinge.

We matched towards the end of December 2024, although James took his sweet time about actually doing anything about it. It wasn't until New Year's Day, whilst enjoying a few drinks down in Devon at the Village Inn, that he finally plucked up the courage to send Lucy a message.

It wasn't long before we decided to meet in person, arranging a walk in the snow at the Saxon Mill on 5th January 2025. During the walk, James happened to find a £1 coin and, being a firm believer in signs from the universe (or perhaps just looking for an excuse to buy Lucy a drink), decided this was clearly a good luck omen.

Naturally, the only sensible thing to do with his newfound fortune was to spend it on a glass of wine for Lucy at the Saxon Mill. Luck of the Irish.

And, as it turns out, that £1 coin was probably the best pound James has ever spent.

The proposal…

After getting the all-important nod from Lucy's parents, James had one small problem: keeping a rather important piece of jewellery hidden from Lucy until the big day.

Knowing that Lucy doesn't leave any stones unturned when it comes to finding things around the house, James decided the house was probably not the safest place for it. Instead, the ring was carefully hidden in the boot of his Jag, tucked underneath the spare wheel - hopefully one place Lucy would never think to look.

With the ring safely concealed, James whisked Lucy away to the Tuscan hills in the summer of 2025 to enjoy everything Italy had to offer.

On 7th August 2025, after a wonderful evening of fine Italian food and a beautiful sunset in the small, traditional village of San Casciano dei Bagni, James suggested they take a walk.

He led Lucy down one of the village's quiet, cobbled streets, found the perfect moment, and asked her to marry him.

Lucy replied, “Yes, yes, yes, yes!”

Which, in fairness, was a fairly clear indication that the proposal had been accepted.

Thankfully, the ring had also made it safely through Italian customs because having it confiscated at the border would have been a fairly spectacular way to scupper the evening.

And so, somewhere amongst the Tuscan hills, on a warm August evening, the next chapter began. ❤️

And now...

Lucy and James live happily in Warwick with their three adorable cats, Tilly, Tabby and the newest member of the family, Tiny.

We can't wait to see you on 2nd April 2027 at St Francis of Assisi Church and Bourton Hall.
